“My father served in WWII as a Captain in the 101st Airborne, 506 Parachute Infantry, E Company -- the “Band of Brothers” from the series. He was awarded a Bronze Star V for Valor at Auxerre in France. He spoke a lot about the war as I grew up, but never about his citation. As he grew older, dementia took hold, and I could no longer get lucid answers from him. After he died in 1996, I searched Army archives to find his citation. The only records of it were on paper and had burned in a huge warehouse fire twenty years earlier. Now I will never know. I wish I had taken the time to record his memories when he still had them.” -- D.D.
